I’ve had a piece of lead in my wrist since I was about 4. I’m kinda proud of it actually.

I was really inspired after hearing Ryan Adams first single “Two” off his soon to be released album Easy Tiger.

I wanted to write something longer than usual, and also not adhere to the normal 4 lines with end rhymes scheme you see a lot on here.

I felt pretty good about it.

Interesting that in my head I imagined there was a traditional “stand-up” tombstone there. The hand being the hammer and the tombstone a chisel.

I noticed you said that you weren’t obsessed with death…even if you were, that’s not uncommon or bad. I’m infatuated with many things that people may think are strange. That’s what makes a writer a writer- a curiosity for the aspects of life (and death) that many others are afraid to face.

I like this one, Erik. Especially the part about hitting the ground with your hand.

Erik, Your poem is awesome. Lauren was the brightest light I’ve ever known. I can’t beleive she’s gone. Lauren would be so happy that you wrote this; you were actually one of her biggest crushes in school.

Thanks Mandy, I did write it.

I wish I could say that Lauren and I were good friends during our school days, especially after seeing how much of an impact she had on people. The truth is we were more of acquaintences.

That doesn’t mean she’s any less deserving of my thoughts, however.
